Introducing:

                  The MNTestore

The bass I modeled my MNTestore after is owned by the Minnesota Orchestra and is currently (2025) being played by Matt Frischman.  Matt has had back surgery so he plays this slightly smaller bass because it is so comfortable.  He ordered a precise copy from me so he could leave the Orchestra’s historic bass at the concert hall and have one at home just like it to practice on.

While attributed to Testore, the bass’ construction is a bit mixed up.  The back and sides are very well made of fine wood, but the top is quite roughly carved.  The top arching is very steep and the ff holes are not terribly refined, to say the least.  The bass has had a neck reset to give it a modern setup but the scroll, while very finely carved, is only slightly larger than a typical cello scroll.
My version of the MNTestore normalizes things a bit but sticks to the body dimensions and setup of the old bass. Like the original the bass sounds and plays wonderfully.
